Dear Wolf Den Parents,
I have volunteered to be the Wolf Den’s Light of Christ liaison. You may be wondering what the Light of Christ is and what does this have to do with scouting. The National Catholic Committee on Scouting has developed the Light of Christ program. Only registered Tiger or Wolf Cub Scouts are eligible and must complete all requirements before he starts the third grade. Most Cub Scouts choose to wait and do the Light of Christ activities and ceremony until the Scout reaches Wolf or second grade to correspond with First Communion.
The purpose of the Light of Christ program is to help your child develop a personal relationship with Jesus. With your active assistance and participation in this program, it is hoped that he will come to see Jesus as a real person and friend. The Light of Christ is the first of five religious emblems available for catholic youth involved in scouting. It is designed to be a stepping stone to the other emblems.
The Light of Christ emblem is given in special recognition by the Catholic Church to the Wolf Cub Scout for advancement in spiritual growth and religious knowledge. They will attend a special mass at The Cathedral of the Assumption where they will be presented with their medals.
Here’s where I come in, you need to get the Light of Christ Activity Book from the Scout store as soon as possible and start working in the book. The book is done on an individual basis not as a group, however the Wolf’s will have to do a church tour as a group. I will coordinate and set up the tour with Father Wayne, Father Bill and or Deacon Mike. This is typically done in early November to help the boys prepare for First Communion.
There is a Light of Christ Emblem Application in the back of the Light of Christ books that have to be signed by the Cub Scout, the Cub Master and by either Deacon Mike or Father Wayne. I will coordinate and set this up as well. I think last year the Wolf’s had Deacon Mike attend the church tour and he signed all the books at once. This is my plan as well.
I am sorry this email is so long, but I wanted to provide you with this valuable information so you can start preparing. Please let me know of you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Kappesser
Welcome to the Wolf Den blog!
We has a great start to our yeasr on Sept 19th, when the Pack met to luanch water bottle rockets into the lower atmosphere. Many thanks to all the intrepid launch engineers who endured being dowsed in “rocket fuel”.
From Chip Sutton:
Hi everyone.
The votes are in and Tuesday is the winner for den meetings. Our first one is going to be Sept. 25th, 7pm in Visitation Hall (cafeteria). Should last about an hour. We’ll use it to have a little fun and lay out the rough plan for this year. If you haven’t already, please pick up the Wolf handbook from the Scout Shop.
Hope to see everyone there.
I’ll be posting pictures from the events this year, as soon I get a better feel for this blog’s features, so feel free to send them to me.
Jim
